Earlier in my career, I would often go into overthinking Apocalypsis. Anything requiring semi-serious effort would trigger bazillion variations of “What are ALL the possible scenarios? How to prepare for ALL of them? What will this and that person think? How will I handle it? Where do I even start? HELP!”
I hated this. Thinking paralysis wasn’t helpful, it was in a way.
Here are some tips which helped this particular overthinker to recover.
Just start. Even when you don’t have all the answers. Momentum will give you a motivation boost. Suddenly, the daunting task will not be so daunting anymore.
Focus on a small next step. You don’t have to tackle everything at once. Eat the elephant one spoon at a time.
Find the REAL problem. What REALLY stops you? Overthinking is likely coming from a hidden limiting assumption, belief, or fear. Keep asking, until you find the source. Once you see it - your inner overthinker likely will fall If you can - talk to someone who can truly listen and help you to find these limiting fears (*cough, cough* a coach)
So, what’s the thing you are overthinking right now? Pause your inner overthinker and apply one of the tips above.
And please don’t overthink this 😆
